IRVINE, Calif. --- A pair of 3-1-1 squads went at it Monday night at Anteater Stadium as neither UC Irvine or Saint Mary's budged on the defensive end to the tune of a 0-0 draw.
UC IRVINE 0, SAINT MARY'S 0
- Despite nothing in the back of the net, UCI continues their streak of out-shooting their opponents which they've done in each match this season, and in every match UCI has registered 11 or more shots while allowing less than 10
- The defense got back to shutout form, its third of the season, and allowing just a single shot on target which Luke Pruter handled off a tricky deflection in the 77th minute
- UCI's offense had a few different sequences with multiple shots blocked or saved as their golden chances. The Anteaters put up four shots in the final five minutes of the first half with Jake Means' low liner blocked on impact to start followed by Juan Barragan-Manzo at the top of the box blocked and Brady Treinen sending the rebound high
- Means got the sequence going again in the 58th minute getting a header punched away at impact and the clearance fell to Francesco Montanile who had a consecutive shots blocked away
- UCI's final push in the 89th minute was their best opportunity as they played up the right wing with Ricardo Ibarra centering a ball to Noah Clarkson. His toe poke was stopped and went to a leaping Jake Means whose header was caught to thwart the flurry
- Luke Pruter earned the shutout facing just one shot on target for his seventh career clean sheet and second 0-0 final of the year
- The 'Eaters turned five shots on target all saved by Saint Mary's Jack Landreth
- Making his first career start was Isaac Powell in his 15th career match. The 'Eaters were without fifth-year midfielder Oscar Cervantes after he picked up his fifth yellow of the year last match
