IRVINE, Calif.-- UC Irvine men's basketball is excited to announce the addition of Dylan Thoerner to their fall 2023 recruiting class.
Â
Thoerner returns to his hometown to finish his collegiate career after spending four seasons at Tufts University. The 6'6" guard averaged 12.4 points and 3.1 rebounds while shooting at a 0.506 clip from the floor and 0.420 from three-point range in three complete seasons in a Jumbo uniform.
Â
The incoming graduate student has made two trips to the Division III Men's Basketball Championship, going as far as the Sweet 16 round in 2020 before the tournament was canceled due to COVID-19.
Â
Thoerner garnered several top honors over the last two seasons, most notably being named to the NABC All-America Second Team, NABC District One First Team, and D3hoops.com District One First Team at the conclusion of the 2023 campaign. The guard is a two-time NESCAC All-First Team selection (2022 and 2023), NESCAC All-Academic Team member (2021, 2022, and 2023), and College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honoree (2023).
"Dylan is a grad transfer from Tufts University where he was an incredible student," stated head coach
Russell Turner. "I have tremendous respect for Dylan's accomplishments at the Division III level where he was an All-American. Dylan is going to help our team as he brings experience, savviness, and shooting to our squad and we are really excited for him to be a part of UC Irvine basketball for the coming year."
Â
Thoerner joins
Derin Saran and
Jurian Dixon in the incoming recruiting class, entering the Anteater program that concluded the 2022-23 campaign with a 23-12 overall record, including a 15-5 conference record that helped secure a Big West regular season championship.
