Liam Miksic closed out his 2023 campaign with a season best in the javelin at the NCAA West Preliminary Round Wednesday in Sacramento.
Miksic finished 22nd overall, beating out his ranking entering the regional meet by 15 spots.
The Spring Lake, New Jersey, native was up second in Flight 1 and got out to a quick start, opening with a season-best 64.52 meters (211-8). After throwing 63.49m (208-3) in the second round, Miksic saw an improvement on his third and final attempt where he hit 64.95m (213-1). That mark was second in his flight and was among the top half of the best in the West Region.
Two weeks ago, Miksic won the Big West men's javelin title with an NCAA-qualifying mark of 64.23m (210-8). He also earned individual victories at the Vince O'Boyle Classic and Steve Scott Invitational during the regular season.
