IRVINE, Calif. - Sophomore
Sameen Andar shattered a 37-year old school record in the 5000-meter to highlight the first day of the Steve Scott Invitational Friday at Anteater Stadium.

Andar's 23-second personal-best of 16:13.12 topped All-American Beth McGrann's record of 16:16.30, which was set back in 1986. It was also the third-best time in the Big West this season.
Hannah Chau added a PR 16:19.73 to jump from No. 9 to No. 3 in program history. She improved her previous best by 22 seconds. Andar took third in the race, while Chau was fifth.

McKenna Paulson placed eighth overall with a lifetime-best 16:55.13, and
Evelin Meza came in 10th (16:57.94).

Malia Gay led the Anteaters in the mile with a time of 4:51.41, which was good for ninth place.
Cathy Salazar-Gasca (4:53.29) was next across the line for the 'Eaters in 11th and
Anna Vogtmann (4:54.88) was 13th.
Montgomery Allison paced UCI in the steeplechase, clocking in at 11:01.28.

In the field events,
Reyna Johnson took home the long jump title with a leap of 6.08 meters (19-11.5). Johnson closed out the regular season with five top-10 finishes, including two individual victories in the event.
Jolie Robinson was also third with a personal-record 5.97m (19-7). She now ranks fourth among UCI's all-time leaders.
Chaselyn Amos contributed a top-10 showing with a season-best 5.41m (17-9).

Robinson started the day in the javelin where she threw for over 40 meters on four of her six attempts. Robinson recorded a lifetime-best 41.92 (137-6) in the finals to place fourth overall. Her mark puts her at No. 7 in school history.

Two Anteaters advanced to the final in the hammer throw.
Deandra Tyler led the way as she closed out the competition with a toss of 53.43 meters (175-3) to pass Long Beach State's Giszelle Hrehor for fourth place. Tyler was one inch shy of her lifetime best that ranks sixth in program history.

DeAna Davis was also eighth with a personal-record 51.07m (167-6). Davis, who entered UC Irvine's all-time top-10 last week, climbed two spots to No. 8.
Sydney Gontang added a PR 48.03 (157-7) to take 10th overall.
