IRVINE, Calif. – UCI fell to Black and Blue rival Long Beach State in a complete 7-0 sweep on Thursday afternoon inside the Anteater Tennis Stadium.
The Beach collected the doubles points at the No. 2 and No.3 games which led No. 1 doubles pairings of
Carolyna Fowler and
Emily Fowler to walk away from the match unfinished.
At No. 1 singles,
Jenna Schlatter battled hard the second set to force the tie breaker. The senior took her opponent all the way to the full seven points but dropped 7-5.
Asha Gidwani took her opponent to a third match after coming away with the 6-1 in set two to tie the No. 3 spot. The extra match was not played out after Long Beach State had already clinched the match.
"Tough match today against Long Beach State," stated assistant coach
Benjamin Cook. "Amanda played a great match creating opportunities on the court to win the point. Jenna was in a huge back and forth match that just barely went the way of her opponent. We are looking back at what we did well today and what we could do better and work on these things as we get ready for Hawai'i on Sunday and for Big West Championships next week!"
