Anteaters Wrap up Busy Thursday with Top 10K Times

AZUSA, Calif. - Sameen Andar and Evelin Meza wrapped up the first day of the Bryan Clay Invitational with top-10 marks in the 10,000m Thursday night at Azusa Pacific's Cougar Stadium.
 
Andar won Section 2 of the 10K Invite in a lifetime-best 33:34.13. She shaved 1:28.71 off her previous best to move up three spots to No. 2 in program history.
 
Meza also placed eighth with a three-minute PR of 34:07.28. Meza's time puts her fifth among UCI's all-time leaders.
 
In the steeplechase, Hannah Chau, who holds the school record, clocked in at 10:34.50, while Montgomery Allison registered a time of 11:10.99.
 
Earlier in the day, Chaselyn Amos, Shaelyn Amos and Laura Sangiacomo kicked off the heptathlon at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
 
Shaelyn led the trio in Group D with 2,395 points through four events. Chaselyn wasn't far behind with 2,321 points, while Sangiacomo finished with 2,235.
 
All three are slated to conclude their second heptathlon of the season tomorrow starting at 9 a.m.


WALNUT, Calif. - Jolie Robinson closed out action in the heptathlon at the Mt. SAC Relays Thursday at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
 
Robinson finished the two-day, seven-event competition with a personal-record 5,074 points. She improved on her No. 8 mark in school history, which she originally set at the UCSB Invitational, March 8-9.
 
The Mission Viejo native started the second day of the Heptathlon Elite with back-to-back personal bests. In the long jump, she reached 19-02.75 on the first of her three attempts. That stood as her best of the day and ranks eighth among UCI's all-time leaders.
 
Robinson also opened the javelin with a PR 134-09. Her mark was third in the competition and is ninth in program history (since 1999). She then wrapped up the meet with a time of 2:34.39 in the 800m.
 
 
LONG BEACH, Calif. - UCI also had a handful of student-athletes at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate in Long Beach on Thursday.
 
In the 100m, Samantha Bartz came in 22nd out of 90 with a wind-aided lifetime-best 12.00 seconds. Aryel Coats also clocked in at 12.18, while Alana Odom registered a wind-aided PR 12.26.
 
Amari Fraser led the 'Eaters in the 100m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 14.50 seconds. Reyna Johnson added a wind-aided season-best 14.54.
 
Lauren Aquino paced UC Irvine in the 200m with a wind-aided personal-record 25.64.
 
Deandra Tyler was the lone representative for the throws squad, placing 28th in the shot put (45-9) and 32nd in the hammer (163-8).
 
On Friday, the Anteaters are set to return to Azusa for the second day of the Bryan Clay Invitational, while they also make their way back to Long Beach for the first day of the Beach Invitational.
