'Eaters Hit The Road For Three Matches

IRVINE, Calif.— UCI hits the road for three contests, looking to extend their win streak and pick up two conference victories.

  • UC Irvine earned their first and second Big West wins this weekend over UC Riverside (6-1) and UC San Diego (4-3)
  • Jenna Schlatter recorded two wins at No. 1 singles and one at No. 2 doubles
  • Schlatter clinch the match point against the Tritons in her come back from behind victory in three sets
  • Alyssia Fossorier walked away with two No. 2 singles wins a No. 2 doubles victory
  • Asha Gidwani leads the 'Eaters in singles play with a 10-3 overall record, 8-2 at the third spot and 2-1 at No. 2
  • The duo of Gidwani/Amanda Perez are on a seven-match win streak in doubles action, earning two wins at the No. 3 position this past week. The freshmen hold a 10-2 overall record and are 9-2 at the third spot
  • Carolyna Fowler and Emily Fowler picked up their first and second conference wins this season as a pair at No. 1 doubles
  • At No. 5 singles, Haily Huynh has won her last five matches and is 6-1 at the fifth position
  • UC Irvine is undefeated against Westmont, holding the 3-0 advantage
  • The Anteaters look to snap their losing streaks against UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly despite leading the all-time series 16-10 and 17-9, respectively
Westmont
UC Riverside comes into the dual match with a 2-15 overall record, 2-3 in Golden State Athletic Conference play. The Warriors have earned wins over Arizona Christian (5-2) and William Jessup (7-0). Westmont has faced fellow Big West foes CSUN, UC Riverside, and Cal State Fullerton.

Sabina Salva and Justie Spitzer are both 2-3 in singles play and each have one win in conference. The duo of Salva and Logan Jackson hold a 3-2 record at No. 3 doubles.
 
UC Santa Barbara
UC Santa Barbara holds a 4-12 record so far in the 2023 campaign and are 4-1 in conference action. The Gauchos picked up two Big West wins over the weekend, defeating UC Riverside 4-1 and Long Beach State 4-3.

52nd ranked Amelia Honer paces UCSB with an 11-1 record in singles play with her only loss coming from 32nd ranked Erin Cayetano of then No. 24 Southern California, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 5-10.
 
Kira Reuter and Honer are ranked 16th nationally in doubles competition. The pair hold a 9-2 record at No. 1, are an undefeated 4-0 in conference play, and are on a four-match win streak.
 
Cal Poly
Cal Poly comes into the dual match with a 10-7 overall record, 4-2 in Big West play. The Mustangs have earned wins over Pacific (4-2) and UC Davis (4-3) in the past week of action. Cal Poly will face Cal State Fullerton on Apr. 15 before welcoming UCI to San Luis Obispo.

Kim Bhunu, the reigning Big West Player of the Week, is 9-6 at No. 1 singles and is a perfect 6-0 in conference matches. Alexandra Ozerets is a threat in individual competition having played at the No. 4 (1-0), No. 5 (6-3), and No. 6 spots (4-0). The Mustangs have some sister magic themselves, headlining Delanie Dunkle and Peyton Dunkle at No. 1 doubles with a 9-6 record, 6-4 in the last 10 matches.
