IRVINE, Calif. - UC Irvine competed in the javelin and hammer throw to kick off the second annual Vince O'Boyle Track & Field Classic Friday afternoon at Anteater Stadium.

Freshman
DeAna Davis led a trio of 'Eaters that placed among the top-eight in the hammer. Davis notched a personal-record 47.94 meters (157-03) on the second of her six attempts to take third in a field of 22 athletes. Junior
Deandra Tyler was also fifth at 46.78m (153-05), while classmate
Cassious Fiaui rounded out the group in seventh at 44.82m (147-00).

Sophomore
Jolie Robinson established a lifetime-best 40.61 meters (133-03) to come in fourth in the javelin. Robinson's mark ranks ninth in program history (since 1999).

Laura Sangiacomo added a personal-best 35.17m (115-04) on her third attempt of Flight 1 to advance to the final. That stood as her best mark of the competition and put her eighth overall.

UCI is back at Anteater Stadium tomorrow for the second day of the Vince O'Boyle Track & Field Classic. The field events will get underway with the long jump, shot put and pole vault at 10 a.m., while action on the track is slated for an 11:10 a.m. start.
