IRVINE, Calif. - UC Irvine won the first two events of the second annual Vince O'Boyle Track & Field Classic Friday afternoon at Anteater Stadium.
 
Sophomore Liam Miksic, who was making his season debut, defended his title in the javelin. Miksic took the lead on his third attempt at 60.72 meters (199-02), before seeing a slight improvement in the finals where he closed out the competition with a toss of 60.90m (199-09). Graduate student Julian Sotelo was also third at 58.50 meters (191-11).
 
In the second men's event of the day, junior Quincy Stokes earned his first collegiate victory in the hammer. After fouling on his first two attempts, Stokes unleashed a toss of 55.13 meters (180-10) to move to the top of the leaderboard. His mark stood as the best in the competition by over 12 feet through the final three rounds.
 
UCI is back at Anteater Stadium tomorrow for the second day of the Vince O'Boyle Track & Field Classic. The field events will get underway with the long jump at 10 a.m., while action on the track is slated for an 11:10 a.m. start.
