PALM DESERT, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's golf team completed the first round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in less than desirable conditions Wednesday at the Classic Club.

The Anteaters struggled through the wind and scattered showers for a first-round 317. Fresno State was the only team to come in below par at 2-under 286. The Bulldogs are three strokes ahead of 47th-ranked Colorado.

Junior
Darien Zhao had UCI's best round of the day at 5-over 77 to tie for 61st. He finished with a team-leading four birdies.

Rei Harashima and sophomore
Kevin McGough, who is competing as an individual, are also tied for 70th with a 79. Freshman
Andy Zou (80), redshirt freshman
Jin Nakao (81) and sophomore
Johnny Bai (82) rounded out UC Irvine's 5-count-4 lineup.

The 'Eaters return to the course tomorrow for the second round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate. Tee times are scheduled for a 7 a.m. start at the Classic Club.
