'Eaters Head to Jurupa Valley for The Joust at Goose Creek

Location: Goose Creek Golf Club - Jurupa Valley, Calif.
Par/Yardage: Par 71, 6,785 yards
IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's golf team is headed to Jurupa Valley, California, for The Joust at Goose Creek, Feb. 20-21.
The two-day tournament will be contested at Goose Creek Golf Club with the par-71 course being played at 6,785 yards. Thirty-six holes are scheduled for Monday with the final round to be played on Tuesday. Both days are slated for an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
The Anteaters are part of a 13-team field that also includes British Columbia, Cal Lutheran, Cal State Fullerton, Chapman, CSUN, Gonzaga, La Verne, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, Utah Tech, Whittier and host California Baptist. Three titles are up for grabs as an individual, 5-count-4 team and All-Five Team champion will be crowned.
UC Irvine's lineup is comprised of Rei Harashima, Darien Zhao, Jin Nakao, Andy Zou and Johnny Bai. Kevin McGough will also be competing as an individual.
LAST TIME OUT
UC Irvine placed sixth at the spring season-opening Orange County Collegiate Classic, Feb. 13-14. The Anteaters, who were co-hosting the fourth annual tournament along with Cal State Fullerton at Coto de Caza South Course, combined for a 5-count-4 total of 903 (301-296-306). The Titans were the only team below par as they claimed the title at 14-under 850. Rei Harashima led the 'Eaters in a tie for 22nd. He registered a 54-hole score of 226 (74-78-74). Jin Nakao was one stroke behind at 227 (77-75-75) to finish 26th overall. Darien Zhao (74-71-84) and Johnny Bai (78-77-74) tied for 32nd at 229. Bai was competing as an individual. Andy Zou, who carded UCI's best final-round score with a 73, tied for 36th (230).
FALL RECAP
UC Irvine came in below par and finished among the top-12 in each of its four fall tournaments. The Anteaters had their best showing at the Bill Cullum Invitational where they placed third, while they had their low 54-hole score of the season at the Visit Stockton Invitational with a 16-under 836 (278-276-282). The 'Eaters recorded six sub-70 rounds at Stockton Golf & Country Club, led by Jin Nakao who bookended the tournament with a 65 and 67.

• The Joust returns for a fourth year since California Baptist made the move to NCAA Division I in 2018-19.
• This will mark UC Irvine's second appearance in The Joust after competing in the tournament in 2021.
• The 'Eaters opened their spring season on one of their home courses for the fifth year in a row.
• Freshman Rei Harashima, who had five sub-70 rounds in the fall, owns a team-best 71.73 scoring average.
• Harashima was UCI's top performer at the Ka'anapali Classic and OC Collegiate Classic.
• Junior Darien Zhao is right on his heels with a 72.00 average and four rounds in the 60s.
• Zhao had his best collegiate finish at the Bill Cullum Invitational where he tied for first.
