Gabby Norris Nets Career-High In 19-2 Win Over Whittier

IRVINE, Calif. – Gabby Norris led No. 6 UC Irvine to a 19-2 victory over Whittier at the Anteater Aquatic Complex Saturday afternoon.

Norris notched a career-high four goals in the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>Following Norris Nioka Thomas, Michaela Strickland, Gracie Helberg and Olivia Giolas each added a pair of goals
>Elena Flynn, Maeve Murphy, Airian Grisham, Sabina Shackelford, Jensine Bugelli, Mica Schiavone and Kennedy East

FIRST PERIOD
>Elena Flynn started the scoring on a penalty shot at 6:35, 1-0
>Nioka Thomas (5:16), Gabby Norris (1:24) netted goals before Maeve Murphy closed out the period with a goal with 28 seconds remaining, 4-0

SECOND PERIOD
>Michaela Strickland opened the scoring at 7:29 followed by goal from Gracie Helberg at 6:53, 6-0
>Airian Grisham (6:13) added a goal before Helberg scored her second of the game at 5:04, 8-0
>Gabby Norris scored from the left side on a pass Mica Schiavone at 4:15
>Strickland recorded a goal (3:30) then had an assist on Sabina Shackelford's goal from the left side at 2:24
>Norris would put home her third goal of the contest with 11 ticks left before the break, 12-0

THIRD PERIOD
>Thomas would score from set at 5:36, 13-0
>Murphy lobbed the ball to Olivia Giolas down low who softly put the ball over the goalie at 3:43 then found Jensine Bugelli in the same place for a goal at 3:07, 15-0

FOURTH PERIOD
>M. Schiavone turned at set and scored on a pass from Murphy at 6:16
>Norris would score again on a powerplay (4:36) before Whittier logged a pair of goals at 4:05 and 3:26, the last on a penalty shot
>UCI would end the game with goals from Kennedy East with the advantage (2:39) and from Giolas who slid a penalty shot in the left corner at 1:52, 19-2

NOTES
>It is fourth time UCI has scored 16 or more goals this season
>UCI had a season-low two exclusions
