IRVINE, Calif.-- The Anteater squad in 2024 will get an injection of a strong, resilient, fifth-year presence with midfielder
Chloe Ragon returning to play for UC Irvine.
Â
"I am really thrilled to come back and get an opportunity to win another championship with an amazing group of girls. There's a lot of new talent and I'm eager to get the opportunity to play and hopefully become champions with them once again."
The fiery midfielder's Anteater career has already had twists and turns beginning as a freshman in 2019 where she played 13 matches. After the 2020 campaign was taken away from her and the program, she came back strong in 2021 starting all but one match in her sophomore season bringing home All-Big West Second Team honors as well as her first two career goals coming as game-winners against Southern Utah and CSUN. Her 2022 season was cut down by an injury missing UCI's second straight Big West title and return trip to the Sweet Sixteen.
"Chloe battled back from serious injury to make an impact in our 2023 championship team," noted head coach
Scott Juniper. "She was getting better and better through the end of the season, and she is fired up to continue that momentum into 2024."
The 2023 season featured a return for Ragon as the 5-1 double major played 23 matches and nearly 1,000 minutes adding a goal and an assist and was there to play in the team's third straight Big West Championship title and second straight Sweet Sixteen appearance.
The Rancho Cucamonga native will enter her sixth year at UC Irvine with 58 career matches, 10 points, and looking to make another vital impact in the Anteater midfielder in search of another deep postseason run.
