IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine women's soccer had an early lead Sunday afternoon at Anteater Stadium, but visiting Cal Poly stormed back to take the 2-1 win.
CAL POLY 2, UC IRVINE 1
- The 'Eaters got on the scoreboard in the 13th minute with Chloe Ragon and Desiree Mendoza setting up Tati Fung with a smash from outside the box off the keeper's mitts and in for a 1-0 lead
- The Mustangs leveled things in the 26th minute after a corner kick was returned to the sideline, and the second service found Emily Nedom unmarked to head it back and on net off the keeper's leaping glove and in for a 1-1 match
- Cal Poly took the lead in the 34th minute intercepting a ball as Jessie Halladay set up Kate Reedy whose left foot finished a shot inside the left post to make it 2-1, Cal Poly
- In net making her first career start was Savanna Arruda covering for an injured Glo Hinojosa picking up her first two career saves
- Fung's goal is her third as an Anteater and first in the run of play in addition to two penalties
- Assists from Mendoza, her eighth of her career and fourth this season, and Chloe Ragon, fourth as an Anteater and first in 2023
- Alyssa Moore was injured in the 22nd minute colliding with a Mustang for a header and did not return
- The Anteaters honored their six seniors following the match - Marissa LeVine, Kiera Smeenge, Madison Goerlinger, Lilli Rask, Desiree Mendoza, and Sophie Gillies
The Anteaters stay on five points at 1-2-2 in five Big West matches and go to 4-6-3 overall. Cal Poly improves to 5-5-3 now with seven Big West points at 3-1-1.
UCI is back home for their next match Thursday, October 12, with kickoff at 6:00 p.m. vs. UC San Diego
