Anteaters Wrap up Day Two in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's tennis team continued action at the UCSB Fall Classic Saturday at Arnhold Tennis Center.
 
In doubles, freshman Andy Nguyen and junior Lawee Sherif earned their first victory as a pair, taking down Sean Ferguson/Wian Roothman of Cal Poly, 8-5. Nguyen and Sherif advance to tomorrow's Flight B consolation final where they are slated to square off against Loyola Marymount's Inigo Diaz/Max Wuelfing.
 
Over in Flight A, junior Rithvik Krishna and senior Matthew Sah dropped a tightly contested match to Robin Parts/Mathieu Josserand of San Diego State, 8-6.
 
Krishna bounced back in singles play as he cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Grand Canyon's Jonathan Da Silva. Krishna then fell to UCSB's Lucca Liu, 6-4, 7-5, in the Flight A semifinals.
 
Nguyen came up just short in his Flight A quarterfinal match against the Gauchos' Gianluca Brunkow. Nguyen took the first set, but Brunkow was able to battle back for the 5-7, 7-6 (5), 6-4 victory. In the backend of the draw, Sherif upended Fernando Fonseca of Cal Poly, 6-3, 7-6 (5).
 
Sah added a consolation victory in Flight B, upending LMU's Sascha Nothdurft, 7-6 (2), 6-3.
 
UC Irvine returns to the courts tomorrow for the third and final day of the UCSB Fall Classic.
