SUNNYVALE, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's cross country team finished fourth at the Bronco Invitational Saturday morning at Baylands Regional Park.
Juniors
Sameen Andar and
Anna Vogtmann both placed among the top-20 for the second meet in a row. Andar led the way as she covered the 6K course in an individual and team season-best 20:06.3 to take sixth out of 187 runners who completed the race. Vogtmann was also 12th in 20:21.2.
Freshman
Kaia Schmidt was the Anteaters' No. 3 runner, clocking a nearly 30-second personal-record 21:04.4 to come in 32nd.
Junior
Malia Gay (54th) was next across the line for the 'Eaters in a season-best 21:30.5. Junior
Montgomery Allison wasn't far behind in 58th with a lifetime-best 21:33.3.
Sophomore
Makena Castillo (21:41.6), junior
Tea Akiaten (22:02.6) and junior
Olivia Liuson (22:12.2) also notched season bests.
Sophomore
Stella Knobbe (22:43.7) and freshman
Rebecca Bronstein (22:43.7) rounded out UCI's 6K lineup.
Gonzaga claimed the team title and was followed by San Francisco, Cal and UC Irvine. The Zags' Rosina Machu was the individual champion with a time of 19:16.3.
UC Irvine will be back in action next Friday, Oct. 20, at Cal State Fullerton's John Elders Titan Invite.
