IRVINE, Calif. – In a tightly contested match, No. 9/9 UC Irvine prevailed, 12-11, against No. 15/13 San Jose State in the third-place game.

This victory gave UCI their 10
th win of the season for their second consecutive season with 10 or more wins.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Ethan Shipman, Dylan Patist, Luka Krstic, and Johann Thrall all had two goals in the contest
- Thrall has had three consecutive mutli-goal games
- Four other Anteaters had one goal apiece
- UCI converted on both of their five-meter penalties
- Garrett Selby played all 32 minutes of action, stopping seven shots from reaching the back of the cage
- Selby went 3-0 this weekend and improves to 4-1 on the season
- Freshman Gage Verdegaal led the game with four assists and three steals
- Tyler Padua and Jack Stevens striped the ball away two times each
- No. 15/13 San Jose State was led by Bence Szabo who recorded three goals on three shots

SCORING BREAKDOWN
- First period: Answering the call was the story of the first period of action as each team went back and forth with their goal scoring. No. 15/13 San Jose State was able to stay ahead, 3-2, at the conclusion of the opening action.

- Second period: UC Irvine's offense woke up after a slow start in the first period to put five points on the board. SJSU poured in two as the Anteaters took the lead for the first time in the contest, 7-5.

- Third period: SJSU started to claw back, but UCI put up a fight. Selby made a huge denial on a five-meter penalty attempts from the Spartans near the end of the action to keep UC Irvine ahead, 10-9.

- Fourth period: Tensions rose in the final eight minutes of action as the game was knotted up twice. Samuel Otta scored the game winner for the 'Eaters as he was waiting in front of the cage for the pass from Thrall for the quick flick in, 12-11.
