ESPN+ | Live Stats | Game Program

All-time series: SMC leads, 8-3-1 | Last home meeting: 2011 NCAA First Round (L(2OT), 1-2

6th - UC Irvine won a share of its 6th Big West regular-season title in 2021, 2nd now under head coach Yossi Raz
2011 - The last time the Gaels visited Anteater Stadium was an NCAA First Round match in 2011 that Saint Mary's won, 1-0, in 2OT
94' - UCI beat UCF in 2018 in the 94' by Alvaro Quezada and current pro teammates Daniel Crisostomo and UCF's Cal Jennings
#1 - Coach Raz's 2019 recruiting class was ranked #1 in the nation with six on the 2021 roster and two now playing pro
19 - The 2021 Anteaters had 19 different players earn a point, 15 different goal scorers, and 11 first-time goal scorers
15 - Jake Means scored his second career goal in the final 15 seconds of the match on Friday vs. Cal (2021 at UCSB with 0:15 left)

· The Anteaters and Golden Bears began the homestand with a thrilling draw, 1-1. Cal scored just ahead of the halftime whistle, and led nearly the entire rest of the match except for a Jake Means header with four seconds remaining in regulation.
· The 'Eaters were not so lucky on Labor Day vs. Cornell falling 1-0. Luke Pruter made one after another spectacular save for four on the day. The 'Eaters could not find an equalizer after a 54th-minute goal by the Big Red. The best chances came on a saved Robert Mejia shot in the 19th minute and Ashish Chattha's free kick from 25 yards out that hit the crossbar, his second in as many matches.
· Anteater debuts were all over the first weekend. Two prominent transfers, Robert Mejia and Samuel Atiye, each played in both matches with Mejia starting each and Atiye making his UCI starting debut Sunday. Freshmen Agaton Pourshahidi and Diego Otoya also appeared in both matches with Pourshahidi starting twice for his collegiate debut and Otoya starting the opener at UCLA. One other debut was Isaac Powell as the freshman subbed off the bench in both matches.
· Jake Means played hero in UCI's draw Friday scoring with four seconds remaining in regulation. It's not his first heroic goal as he was on the spot in the team's 2021 draw at UC Santa Barbara where he tied the match at 1-1 with 15 seconds to go.
· UC Irvine and UCF reprise their series after playing in Orlando in 2018. The 'Eaters toppled a highly-touted Knights team in overtime, 1-0, back then, the same year UCF began their run to three straight NCAA Tournaments. After a 9-8 season a year ago and breaking that streak, the Knights are 2-1 start with a loss to No. 15 Wake Forest, and just Monday dropped UC Riverside, 3-0, to earn votes in the national poll. They've also had a match ruled a no contest due to weather. Friday's match will be the final non-conference match of their year before jumping into AAC play. Five different players have scored their five goals with Mauricio Villalobos adding two assists and a game-winner. Players to Watch according to the United Soccer Coaches are senior midfielder Gino Vivi and junior forward Lucca Dourado.
