FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Megan Yang leads UC Irvine after the first day of the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic held at the Ptarmigan Country Club.

Yang had a spectacular summer and her success continued in her first tournament of the season. The senior shot a four-under par 140 and is tied for fifth heading into the final round, seven shots behind leader Victoria Gailey from Nevada (133). She posted a 69 on the first round and followed with a 71 on the second, recording an eagle on each round. Yang's scorecard had a 3 on the Par 5 16^th hole in the first round and another three on the Par 5 second hole on the second round. She was tied for fourth best on Par 3s with a -1 (2.88).

As a team, UCI is eighth with a two-round total of 587 (294-293), the two best rounds of the young season. The Anteaters were third among tournament participants with 109 pars.

Sophomore Nicole Zhang is tied for 33^rd after rebounding from an 80 in the first round to a career-best 69 on the second.

Freshman Kiana Briggs is tied for 38^th with a score of 150 (72-78), while sophomore Charlotte Ryoo is tied for 46^th at 153 (78-75) and freshman Jasmine Chen is tied for 55^th place with a 36-hole total of 156 (75-81).

The tournament concludes with 18 holes tomorrow beginning with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
