FORT COLLINS, Colo. --
Megan Yang leads UC Irvine after the first day of the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic held at the Ptarmigan Country Club.
Yang had a spectacular summer and her success continued in her first tournament of the season. The senior shot a four-under par 140 and is tied for fifth heading into the final round, seven shots behind leader Victoria Gailey from Nevada (133). She posted a 69 on the first round and followed with a 71 on the second, recording an eagle on each round. Yang's scorecard had a 3 on the Par 5 16
th hole in the first round and another three on the Par 5 second hole on the second round. She was tied for fourth best on Par 3s with a -1 (2.88).
As a team, UCI is eighth with a two-round total of 587 (294-293), the two best rounds of the young season. The Anteaters were third among tournament participants with 109 pars.
Sophomore
Nicole Zhang is tied for 33
rd after rebounding from an 80 in the first round to a career-best 69 on the second.
Freshman
Kiana Briggs is tied for 38
th with a score of 150 (72-78), while sophomore
Charlotte Ryoo is tied for 46
th at 153 (78-75) and freshman
Jasmine Chen is tied for 55
th place with a 36-hole total of 156 (75-81).
The tournament concludes with 18 holes tomorrow beginning with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
