DAVIS, Calif. - Junior
Hannah Chau led the UC Irvine women's track & field team on the first day of the Big West Championships at UC Davis.

Chau bookended Friday's track events with podium finishes. She kicked off the meet with a runner-up showing in the 3000-meter steeplechase. In her second career steeple, Chau shattered a 13-year old school record with a time of 10:28.19, beating Lauren Chramosta's standard from 2009 by over eight seconds. Chau came back four hours later to place third in the 10,000-meter run (35:32.18) as she totaled 14 points for the Anteaters.

Freshman
Montgomery Allison also scored in the steeplechase, coming in fifth with a lifetime-best 10:54.53, which ranks fifth in program history. Freshman
Sameen Andar added three points in the 10K where she was sixth (36:04.41).

Sophomore
Deandra Tyler notched a personal-best 47-03 in the shot put to finish second overall. Tyler's PR came on her sixth and final throw, and moved her up to No. 4 on UCI's all-time charts.

Graduate student
Emma McCarthy ran a personal-record 2:09.17 to win her heat as the fastest qualifier in the 800m prelims. McCarthy cracked the Anteaters' all-time top-10 with the sixth-best time in program history.
Alexis Alexander (2:14.03) also placed among the top-eight to advance to tomorrow's 800m final.

Three 'Eaters will be moving on in the 1500m. Freshman
Anna Vogtmann led the trio as an automatic qualifier after taking second in Heat 1 with a personal-record 4:28.23. Her time stood as the second-fastest in the preliminary round. Sophomore
Claire Livengood (4:35.97) and freshman
Olivia Liuson (4:36.11) are set to join Vogtmann in tomorrow's final as both established lifetime bests to place among the top-12.

Zani Meaders had the top time in the 400m prelims, crossing the finish line in 55.70 seconds.
Mia Marquez also clocked in at 56.82, giving UCI two 400m finalists.

Freshman
Reyna Johnson and sophomore
Amari Fraser both earned a time qualifier in the 100m hurdles. Johnson was fourth overall in the prelims at 14.20 seconds, while Fraser was fifth at 14.37. Fraser also ran a personal-best 62.28 to finish fourth in the 400m hurdle prelims, and Johnson notched two points in the long jump, coming in seventh overall (18-03).
