Throwers Lead UC Irvine at Battle in the OC

FULLERTON, Calif. -
The UC Irvine men's track & field team fell to Cal State Fullerton in The Battle in the OC Friday at Titan Track Complex.
 
The Anteaters had a strong outing in the throws where they won three of the four events. Noah Holm earned his sixth shot put victory of the season with a collegiate personal-record 58-08.75. That mark moves him up to No. 3 on UCI's all-time charts and is tops in the Big West this year. Jacob Hawkins (53-02.25) and Quincy Stokes (52-07.25) added lifetime bests.
 
Hawkins also claimed the discus title with a personal-best 178-02, improving his No. 8 mark in program history. Holm was the runner-up (176-03), while Kyle Tsu notched a PR 175-01 to take third.
 
Liam Miksic picked up his second javelin win in his last three outings. He finished ahead of the pack by over 12 feet with a toss of 191-10. 
 
Seth Enochs was just an inch behind the leader in the long jump as he came in second with a leap of 23-feet.
 
On the track, Drew Pickett posted the top time in the 110m hurdles (14.25), while he was also the runner-up in the 400m hurdles (58.71). Maxwell Jefferson registered a season-best 15.02 in the 110H in his first meet since the Beach Opener on March 5.
 
Miles Duncan won the 400m in a lifetime-best 47.83.
 
Jason Messner (1:58.00) and Jacob Bustamante (1:58.78) both had season bests in the 800m.
 
Carlo Reyes led a trio of 'Eaters in the 200m with a third-place showing. Reyes crossed the finish line in a personal-record 21.95 seconds, and Eric Parker had a season-best 22.10.
 
UC Irvine returns to action next weekend, hosting the Steve Scott Invitational at Anteater Stadium, April 29-30.
