'Eaters End Regular Season at LBSU, CSF

The regular season concludes on the road with two local rivals at Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton
 
Storylines
  • Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico leads the squad with 11 dual singles wins, all coming at No. 1. She took down the No. 88 singles player, Shakhnoza Khatamova, of UCSB last week in three sets to win Big West Player of the Week honors for a second time
  • Other winning records in singles are Emily Fowler at 10-8, and Alyssia Fossorier's nine wins and Dasee Carter's five wins both at .500 on the year
  • Anteater doubles are 32-23 overall with a 9-8 mark from the duo of Alyssia Fossorier and Jessica Tsukiji
  • Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico is 12-3 overall in doubles between four different doubles partners and won 10 consecutive doubles sets
  • Three other Anteaters have won at least 10 doubles sets in Fossorier, Tsukiji, and Emily Fowler
  • Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico claimed her first career Big West Player of the Week award on March 21 going 5-0 across singles and doubles two weeks ago
  • The Anteaters competed in three fall tournaments and the CSUF Spring Invite to start 2022 taking home a total of 27 singles wins and eight doubles wins
  • UC Irvine women's tennis recognized its six seniors last weekend - Megan Mansonhing, Jessica Tsukiji, Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico, Alyssia Fossorier, Dasee Carter, and Shreya Pavani
  • The women's tennis squad finished the fall quarter with the highest grade point average in UCI athletics. "This team takes great pride in their studies and I'm so happy they are being recognized for all their efforts. This is quite an impressive accomplishment," praised coach Ferris.
  • Five Anteaters were among the 113 student-athletes on the Fall 2021 Dean's List - Dasee Carter, Megan Mansonhing, Shreya Pavani, Mia Totah, and Jessica Tsukiji - by taking 12 or more units with a 3.500 GPA or higher

  • The 'Eaters hosted a pair of home match vs. ranked squads, No. 70 Cal Poly and No. 25 UC Santa Barbara
  • Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico was the winner of both of UCI's sets over the week with the upset singles win over No. 88 Khatamova and teaming up with Emily Fowler for a doubles set win
 
Long Beach State Beach
The Black and Blue Rivalry Series foes enter the week at an 8-14 mark playing their final match of the regular season against the 'Eaters. LBSU began Big West play with three straight wins over UC Davis, UC Riverside, and UC San Diego before dropping the next five conference matches including four straight entering Saturday. They've had success at home at 5-4 this season.

Nikola Homolkova leads the charge at No. 1 singles while Zara Lennon has winning records at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles alongside partner Sheena Masuda

Cal State Fullerton Titans
The Titans are 14-7 on the year which included an eight-match win streak that spanned the whole month of March. In Big West play, they're 4-4 with wins over UC Riverside, UCSD, CSUN, and edging LBSU by one. They're looking to stop a three-match home losing streak coming to Arizona, Cal Poly, and UCSB

Misaki Kobayashi and Eira Tobrand run the show at the top two singles spots and as a doubles pair. Juliette Daries and Natalie Duffy have done their part with double digit wins along the other singles spots
