No. 6 Anteaters Top Cal State East Bay, 19-8

HAYWARD, Calif. – No. 6 UC Irvine closed out the non-conference schedule with a 19-8 victory over Cal State East Bay at Pioneer Pool.

Playing in the second game of the day, 13 different Anteaters scored, recording 19 goals on 30 shots (.633). UCI did not take advantage of powerplay opportunities, going 3-10 (.300). The Pioneers scored four of their goals with an advantage.

With two goals, senior Tara Prentice tied the school record for career goals, matching Jessy Cardey with 224 set from 2010-14.

>Six Anteaters had multiple goals, including Sarah Nichols, Rylee Williams, Tara Prentice, Mica Schiavone, Gabby Norris and Libby Alexander, all with two

FIRST PERIOD
>Airian Grisham got the scoring started at 6:39
>Tara Prentice continued her hot scoring with a pair of goals at 6:39 and 5:41, 3-0
>Auriel Bill got CSUEB on the board at 4:43
>Jensine Bugelli put away her sixth goal of the season at 3:10
>East Bay answered with a goal at 2:48 before Piper Smith deposited a goal at 1:52, 5-2

SECOND PERIOD
>Elena Flynn took a pass from Sabina Shackelford and scored a powerplay goal at 6:55, 6-2
>Toni Shackelford found the back of the cage at 5:19
>With an extra attacker, Bill scored again for East Bay, 7-3
>A Brooke Banta pass found Kennedy East for a goal, 8-3 (3:28)
>Another one for Bill was followed by one from Rylee Williams  (1:27) and one by Sarah Nichols (0:46) to close out the period with UCI leading 10-4

THIRD PERIOD
>CSUEB started the scoring before Mica Schiavone added a pair of goals (6:10 & 4:37), 12-5
>Williams notched her second of the game, 13-6 (3:44)
>Isabel Rack got in to the scoring with a powerplay at 1:48, 14-6

FOURTH PERIOD
>Nichols scored quickly (7:43) then UCI had a goal by Gabby Norris (6:06), 16-6
>Norris added another at 2:17 then Libby Alexander dented the twine not once but twice to end the scoring, 19-8

NOTES
>It's the fourth time this season UCI has scored 19 or more goals
>UCI extended the winning streak to four and improve their record on the road to 7-1
