Vogtmann, McCarthy Lead UCI with Impressive Performances

Bryan Clay Invitational 

AZUSA, Calif. -
The distance crew continued to set lifetime bests Thursday at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa.

Anna Vogtmann led the way with a third-place finish in Section 5 of the 5000m Open A where she ran a nearly 20-second personal-record 16:32.93. Vogtmann's PR moved her up to No. 2 in program history as she jumped six spots on the all-time list, passing All-American and UCI Athletics Hall of Famer Buffy Rabbitt in the process.

Claire Livengood took third in the 5000m Open B, clocking a lifetime-best 17:35.27. Olivia Liuson was also sixth overall with a PR 17:36.96.
 
McKenna Paulson registered a personal-best 36:54.88 in the 10000m Open.

Pacific Coast Intercollegiate

LONG BEACH, Calif. -
The UC Irvine women's track & field team kicked off a three-day stretch at Long Beach State's Jack Rose Track with impressive performances Thursday at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate.
 
Emma McCarthy highlighted the afternoon with a nearly two-second victory in the 800m where she established a personal-record 2:10.40. McCarthy has won three of the four 800m races she has competed in this season with all three event wins coming at Jack Rose Track. She also claimed the title at last week's Challenge Cup (April 8) and at the Beach Opener (March 5).
 
Alexis Alexander added a lifetime-best 2:13.77 for a top-eight showing in the 800m.
 
Reyna Johnson earned runner-up honors, and was the top collegiate finisher in the 100m hurdles, crossing the finish line in a wind-aided lifetime-best 13.93 seconds. Amari Fraser also placed 13th among 34 competitors (14.59w).
 
Zani Meaders was first among collegiate athletes, and second overall in the 400m with a time of 55.73, while Mia Marquez matched her personal best at 56.75 to come in sixth.
 
Running into a slight headwind, Aryel Coats established a lifetime-best 24.75 in the 200m. She was the runner-up, finishing four-hundredths of a second behind Akron's Fegor Clifford. Coats also led the Anteaters in the 100m, placing fourth with a wind-aided season-best 12.18. In her 100m collegiate debut, Johnson notched a personal-record 12.33 (10th).
 
In the throws, Kassidy Sani had a season-best 150-03 in the discus, while Deandra Tyler led a trio of 'Eaters in the shot put, coming in 20th out of 53 (45-04.25).
 
UC Irvine will be back in action on Friday, April 15, as it is set to compete in the 1500m at the Bryan Clay Invitational, while kicking off the two-day Beach Invitational.
