LOS ANGELES, Calif. & AUSTIN, Texas - The UC Irvine men's track & field team had a split squad in action Friday at UCLA's Bob Larsen Distance Invitational and the Texas Relays.

At UCLA,
Cameron Smith saw a 19-second improvement in the steeplechase with a personal-record 9:09.61. He finished fifth in the Invite section, while his time ranks second in the Big West this year.
AJ Sager added a lifetime-best 9:35.88.

Lukas Amare was the runner-up in the Open section of the mile, clocking in at 4:16.90.
Zeid Hussain was also eighth with a time of 4:22.36, while
Jacob Bustamante competed in the Invite section, finishing at 4:27.52.

Henry McClish and
Juan Sanchez contributed top-10 showings in the 5000m Open. McClish came in sixth (15:12.81), while Sanchez was seventh (15:13.60).

In the throws,
Quincy Stokes was second in the hammer with a season-best 165-00, and
Liam Miksic finished third in the javelin (190-07).

A handful of 'Eaters took part in the Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Josh Farmer competed in two events, starting the day by registering UCI's fastest 100m of the season at 10.69 seconds. He also teamed up with
Malcolm Overbaugh,
Ty Sheridan and
Eric Parker to run the 4x400 in 3:13.88.

Noah Holm finished seventh in Section B of the discus (162-03), while
Kyle Tsu was 11th in Section B of the shot put (52-08.25).

UC Irvine is back in action on Saturday, March 26, at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational.
