FIRST SERVE
No. 13 UCI returns to Big West action, playing a pair of matches with No. 10 UC San Diego this week. The Anteaters will travel to La Jolla for the first meeting Friday (Mar. 25) at RIMAC Arena. The teams return to Irvine Saturday (Mar. 26) for a contest at the Bren Events Center. Both matches begin at 7:00 p.m.
Proof of vaccination or negative test is still required at the Bren Events Center, while the mask mandate has been lifted. Masks are still highly recommended indoors.
STORYLINES
No. 10 UC San Diego is 9-7 overall and 1-2 in the Big West.
The Tritons are coming off a 3-1 victory at Concordia on Mar. 9.
UCSD opened the Big West slate, splitting a pair of matches with Hawaii at home. The Tritons upended then-No. 3 Warriors 3-2 before losing 3-0.
The Tritons lead the Big West in kills (12.80) and digs (9.55).
UCI is third in kills (12.06) and fourth in aces (1.39), digs (8.03) and blocks (2.09).
The matches this week feature some of the best outside hitters and middle blockers in the conference.
UCSD's Logan Clark leads the league with a .469 hitting percentage, while Connor Campbell is fourth at .375. Campbell is fourth in blocking (1.08) just behind Shane Benetz (1.09).
At the pins, Kyle McCauley is second in kills (4.05) and points (4.83) for the Tritons, while Francesco Sani is third in kills (3.71) and fourth in points (4.29).
UCI and UCSD split a pair of five-set matches last season. Each team won on the opponents' home court.

LAST TIME OUT
UCI dominated the net in a 3-1 victory over George Mason. The Anteaters tied a season-high with 15.5 blocks, led by middle blocker Doug Dahm's career-best eight total blocks (1 solo, 7 assisted).
The Anteaters were also impressive from the service line, recording 10 aces, the second most this season.
Francesco Sani had a career-high four aces to go with 15 kills, seven digs and three block assists. Hilir Henno matched Sani with 15 kills.
HENNO RACKS UP MORE AWARDS
Freshman Hilir Henno picked up his fourth Big West Freshman of the Week award on Mar. 14.
In the upset of then-No. 2 Long Beach State, the opposite had 17 kills and a career-high six service aces. His six aces are tied for third best in a Big West match this season and tied for second most in UCI history.
For the week, he averaged 3.58 kills, 4.50 points, 1.33 digs, 0.50 blocks and 0.67 aces per set.
Henno, who extended his double-digit kill streak to 10, ranks third in the Big West in points per game (4.35) and aces (0.53), fifth in kills (3.48) and sixth in digs (1.73).
He added to his resume which also includes Big West Offensive (Jan. 17) and Defensive (Jan. 10) Player of the Week honors.
