San Diego is off to a good start to 2022 at 11-7 under new head coach Brock Ungricht. The wins have been against solid competition with three of four over Oregon, two of three at Grand Canyon and Pepperdine, midweeks wins over UCSD and Cal State Fullerton with a tough early stretch losing twice each to UNLV and Dallas Baptist.

The 2021 season finished with a 33-12 mark and 19-8 in conference play for the Toreros, but still couldn't break their postseason drought stretching back to 2013. USD won 10 of 13 series and a 22-5 mark at home.

The Toreros and Anteaters are back playing after no matchup in 2021. The pair got one midweek in in 2020 before the shutdown with UCI losing. USD has won the last two in the matchup, but UCI holds the 60-48-1 lead in the series in the most-played matchup for the program against a non-conference opponent - 109 times.

The offense is hitting .283 and scores 6.4 runs a game. Kevin Sim has hammered the ball with eight home runs and 24 RBI in a lineup that has five players hitting over .333. The Toreros like toe run with 28 steals already from 10 different basestealers.

Pitching enters with a 5.20 ERA. The bullpen has a 6-2 record with microscopic ERAs from Ivran Romero (0.63), Cole Colleran (1.80), and Conner Thurman (2.89) - each among their four players to earn a save. They've registered 180 strikeouts in 160 innings led by 108 from their weekend starters. Midweek starters have been Morgan Lunceford (1.2 IP vs. UCSD) and Ian Churchill (5 IP, ER vs. Cal State Fullerton).

HAWAI'I RAINBOW WARRIORS
Hawai'i is now under the leadership of San Diego's former head coach, Rich Hill. His first season has started at 7-12 on the island for the most part splitting series with Washington State and Rutgers and a sweep at the hands of Vanderbilt. They briefly came to play in the Tony Gwynn Legacy going 2-2 against Mountain West competition. The squad went 1-2 at Long Beach State to start Big West play where they've finished between fifth and seventh every season.

The 2021 season saw the Bows place eighth ending coach Trapasso's run with UH. The Warriors were 24-26 featuring a win over Arizona State and series wins against Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State, and one win at UC Santa Barbara.

The Warriors and Anteaters was a four-game sweep for UCI in 2021. UCI has a 34-12 lead all-time against Hawai'i with a slim 16-10 advantage at Les Murakami Stadium. The last trip was a UCI series win in two of three after dropping the opener back in 2019.
