IRVINE, Calif. – No. 6 UC Irvine jumped out quickly and never looked back in a 14-10 victory over No. 20 San Diego State at the Anteaters Aquatic Complex.

The Anteaters (14-5) had a team effort with nine players logging a goal in the victory. UCI was led by redshirt freshman Elena Flynn and senior Tara Prentice with three goals apiece. Flynn also dished two assists.

UCI took advantage off exclusions, scoring five goals on 10 power plays, while SDSU was just 3-11.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>Piper Smith had two goals and a steal followed by Kili Skibby, Toni Shackelford, Jessica Lynch, Sabina Shackelford, Isabel Rack and Mica Schiavone each adding one
>SDSU was paced by Karli Canale and Rose Kanemy with three goals

FIRST PERIOD

>Prentice would answer with a penalty shot at 6:03, 6-2
>An Aztec goal (2:54) was followed by a steal by Piper Smith, who then drew an exclusion and a penalty shot. Flynn would connect on the penalty with 1:37 remaining (7-3)
>San Diego State closed out the quarter with a powerplay goal with two seconds on the clock, 7-4

THIRD PERIOD
>A SDSU goal by Karli Canale closed the UCI margin to 7-5 (6:20)
>The Anteaters responded with a power play goal by Jessica Lynch (4:34) and a Flynn backhand (3:57), 9-5
>SDSU would score again at 3:36, but UCI answered with three straight by Kili Skibby (3:11) and a pair by Piper Smith (2:36, 0:24), to keep a comfortable advantage, 12-6    

FOURTH PERIOD
>The Aztec out-scored UCI 3-1, two on power plays, to keep it interesting with 6:00 minutes to play, 13-8
>Toni Shackelford stopped the momentum on a powerplay goal at 4:44, 14-9
>The Aztecs closed out the scoring with a goal at 4:19
