Doug Dahm Posts Career-High In Loss To Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif. – Middle blocker Doug Dahm had a career night at the net, but UC Irvine was swept by No. 5 Pepperdine (21-25, 17-25, 25-27) at Firestone Fieldhouse Wednesday.

Dahm recorded eight total blocks on one solo and a career-high seven assisted to go with three kills.

Pepperdine (5-2) took advantage of six aces, while committing just seven errors. The Anteaters (3-8) had just one ace and 13 errors.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>Freshman Hilir Henno led UCI with 13 kills, hitting .450 (13-4-20). He added three digs and five blocks
>Outside hitter Francesco Sani recorded 10 kills and a team-high four digs
>Setter Dylan Zhai matched Sani with four digs and had 28 set assists
>Middle blocker Connor Campbell hit a season-high .833 (5-0-6)
>Jaylen Jasper topped Pepperdine with 11 kills and eight blocks
>The Waves hit .260 for the match, while UCI hit .193 (37-21-83)

FIRST SET
>A kill by Hilir Henno and a triple block by Henno, Connor Campbell and Francesco Sani moved UCI out to an early 3-1 lead
>The Waves would score three in a row and catch UCI at 7-7
>UCI would score the next two on a kill by Sani and a block by Doug Dahm and Dylan Zhai, 9-7
>UCI came alive, scoring five straight points, which included two block assists by Dahm, 18-15
>Down 20-17, the Waves responded with seven points in a row, five on UCI errors, 24-20
>After a Henno kill, Pepperdine clinched the set with a kill, 25-20

SECOND SET
>UCI led 4-2 before a 5-0 Pepperdine run moved the Waves in front 7-4
>A 9-1 run, which included seven UCI errors gave Pepperdine the 17-7 advantage
>Kills by Henno and Sani was followed by a block by Henno and Dahm to start a 6-1 spurt by the Anteaters to close within 14-19
>Pepperdine would out-score UCI 6-3 to win the set, 25-17

THIRD SET
>With the set tied at 5-5, Pepperdine had a pair of kills and a block to force an Anteater timeout, 8-5
>Another block by Dahm along with Zhai knotted the score at 8 all
>The Waves would score the next two to regain control
>A kill by Henno paired with a Pepperdine attack that went long tied the set at 13-13
>Back-to-back blocks by the Anteaters gave UCI a 17-15 lead
>Pepperdine once again answered with the next two
>A sky hook kill and ace by Sani brought UCI to set point 24-22, but the Anteaters couldn't put it away watching Pepperdine score the next three to lead 25-24
>Following a kill by Cole Gillis, Pepperdine had the final two points, 27-25

NOTES
>The Anteaters are still in search of their first win on the road (0-6)
>UCI had 11 blocks, the third most this season
