LA JOLLA, Calif. --- The Anteaters fell, 5-2, at UC San Diego Saturday afternoon despite a fierce comeback attempt.

Doubles play went to the Tritons (2-4, 1-0) winning all three set by scores of 6-3, 6-3, and 6-4 clinching the point at No. 1.

The 'Eaters (0-4, 0-2) fell further behind in singles going down 3-0 with a loss at No. 1 singles and Jenna Schlatter retiring at No. 3. UCI made a big comeback with straight set wins from Alyssia Fossorier and Mia Totah to make it 3-2, but UCSD held on to wins at Nos. 2 and 5 singles in the third set after winning the opener for the 5-2 win.

Next up for the Anteaters they head up to Oregon for a three-game trip against Seattle U, George Fox, and Portland State starting Saturday, Feb. 12.

Mia Totah - "I'm proud of everyone's play today. I think we all competed well and made our opponents work for every point. For my singles match, I had to be careful not to let the momentum shift and keep my foot on the gas. Towards the end of the second, I had to close some tough points to stay in control of the match. I'm excited to keep building off my win and head up to Portland next weekend. Go 'Eaters!"

Alyssia Fossorier - "Although today did not go our way, I'm proud of how everyone competed. Doubles started slow, but I believe we picked up our energy in singles. I know that we will take what we learned from this match and use it to fuel ourselves for our upcoming matches. Zot Zot Zot!"
