Women's Tennis Falls to Grand Canyon on Final Point

IRVINE, Calif. ---
UC Irvine women's tennis played its first home match of 2021-22 battling to the last point in a 4-3 loss to Grand Canyon Friday morning.

For a second straight match, the Anteaters (0-3, 0-1) secured the doubles point. Jessica Tsukiji and Alyssia Fossorier won at No. 2 doubles, and after GCU (1-0) wrapped up No. 1, the duo of Emily Fowler and Mia Totah won, 6-3, to give UCI an early 1-0 lead.

Singles went back and forth as the Lopes took a couple straight set wins to jump ahead, 2-1. Emily Fowler finished her straight set win at No 5 singles to tie things back up, and Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico came from behind for a three-set victory grab the lead back for the 'Eaters, 3-2.

The Lopes battled back for the final two points winning at Nos. 2 and 4 singles after dropping the first set and ultimately taking the 4-3 win.

The 'Eaters have a chance Saturday to get that first win of the season, and its a Big West match as they travel down to UC San Diego for a 12:00 p.m. match.
