No. 7 UC Irvine Downs No. 13 Long Beach State, 9-8

IRVINE, Calif. – Tara Prentice led No. 7 UC Irvine over No. 13 Long Beach State in the second game of the day at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational Saturday.

Prentice had three goals, two steals and an assist on the game-winner at the Anteaters Aquatics Complex.

UCI's goalkeeper Faith Tedesco had nine saves to help the Anteaters improve to 11-4 overall.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>Brooke Banta recorded two goals and a steal in the victory
>Piper Smith and Sarah Nichols each added a goal and two steals
>Elena Flynn, Jessica Lynch pitched in a goal, a piece
>LBSU's Elena Kotanchyan had a game-high four goals

FIRST QUARTER
>Long Beach got on the board first then Tara Prentice record the equalizer on a no-look goal at 3:15
>Following a Long Beach exclusion Brooke Banta put one away in the middle to tie the score at 2-2

SECOND QUARTER
>Jessica Lynch launched a deep shot that found the back of the net at 6:59
>Prentice drew a five-meter penalty which was blocked by LBSU goalkeeper Chelsea Oliver but on the next trip down she would not be denied firing a backhand from set at 4:16 to go up 4-2

THIRD QUARTER
>LBSU would score without defense to even the score at 4-4 then scored again at 4:33 to move in front 5-4
>Lynch would pass to Prentice who used her left hand to push it in the goal at 3:47, 5-5
>After a Beach goal, Piper Smith had a power play goal with 16 seconds left in the period to knot the score at 6-6

FOURTH QUARTER
>A goal by Elena Flynn (6:43) was followed by one by Banta at 5:39 to give UCI a 8-6 advantage
>Long Beach would take advantage of an exclusion to score at 3:22
>Prentice passed to Nichols who lobbed the ball softly over and in at 2:54, 9-7
>LBSU would score with 49 seconds left and would have the final shot that was field blocked by Flynn to secure the victory, 9-8

UCI will play Michigan at 10:30 tomorrow at the Anteater Aquatics Center in their last game of the tournament.
