SAN FRANCISCO – The UC Irvine men's tennis team took down No. 72 San Francisco, 4-3, Saturday afternoon at the California Tennis Club.

For the second time in as many weeks, the Anteaters and Dons squared off with the decision coming down to the final singles match. This time, it was the 'Eaters (3-4) who came from behind for the win with 86th-ranked
Emmanuel Coste clinching at No. 1.

USF (4-4) went up 1-0 after winning at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles. Coste and
Noah Zamora were up, 4-2, on court two when the match was abandoned.

Zamora took care of business in singles, dispatching Mitch Johnson, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 4 to even the team score at 1-1. San Francisco raced back out front, 3-1, after earning a couple of hard-fought wins at Nos. 5 and 3.

Facing an uphill battle, UCI continued to chip away, starting with
Riccardo Roberto's 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) victory at the second position.
Mike Mkrtchian then tied it up once again by upending Nikola Kuraica, 6-1, 6-4, on court six.

All eyes then turned to the decisive match at the top of the lineup. Coste, who had won the first set, went down to the wire with Nil Giraldez in the second frame. Coste was trailing 5-1 in a tiebreaker but won six points in a row to close out the 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) triumph.

UC Irvine is back in action tomorrow when it heads to Santa Clara for a 12 p.m. showdown.
