Hohn's Career-High Not Enough In 66-64 Loss To Cal State Fullerton

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton's Jalen Harris hit a free throw line jumper with 5.9 on the clock to beat UC Irvine, 66-64 at Titan Gym Thursday.

Cal State Fullerton (17-8, 10-3) out-scored the Anteaters 17-5 in the final 6:17 of the game. UCI had six turnovers in that final Titan run and committed 18 for the game, the third most of the season. The Titans capitalized, scoring 25 points off UCI turnovers.

Guard Justin Hohn had a career-high 17 points in the loss. He was 7-11 from the field, including 3-4 from three-point distance. The sophomore also had two assists and two steals.

Both teams were impressive offensively. The Anteaters (13-8, 7-4) shot 56 percent from the floor (28-50) and hit 5-13 from distance, while the Titans were 29-56 from the field (51.8%).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>Senior Collin Welp knocked down 6-12 from the floor and ended with 12 points and five rebounds
>Guards JC Butler and Dawson Baker each had eight points. Baker tied Welp and Austin Johnson for the team lead in rebounds with five
>CSUF's Damari Milstead matched Hohn with a game-high 17 points
>E.J. Anosike totaled 16 points, while Vincent Lee shot .750 from the floor and had 13 points and a game-best eight rebounds in the victory. Lee and Milstead combined for six steals
>After holding CSUF to 25 first half points, the Titans scored 41 in the second half

FIRST HALF
>JC Butler scored UCI's first two baskets with layups, 4-2 (17:29)
>The Anteaters had four turnovers, three on Titan steals in the first five minutes
>The teams would stay close until UCI out-scored CSF 10-4 to take a 26-18 lead at 4:06. Butler (5:07) and Justin Hohn (5:47) had three-pointers in the run
>Back-to-back buckets by E.J. Anosukee for the Titans narrowed the lead to 26-23 (1:34)
>The Anteaters answered with a layups by Collin Welp (1:11) and Isaiah Lee (:53), 30-23
>A CSF layup by Tray Maddox Jr. with 31 seconds left ended the half, 30-25

SECOND HALF
>Hohn exploded out of the break scoring eight of UCI's first 10 points, including back-to-back three-pointers to give UCI a 40-31 lead at 16:42
>A DJ Davis layup down the paint gave UCI a 10-point lead before the Titans went on a 11-1 run to close within 46-45 at 10:58
>A Lee three-pointer in right corner at 10:46 stopped the momentum, 49-45
>UCI would go on a 10-2 spurt which included three more Hohn layups to extend the lead back to 10 at 6:38 (59-49)
>The Titans had nine in a row to get back in it, 59-58 (5:15)
>JC Butler would make the first of two free throws before a Jalen Harris layup tied it at 60-60 with 4:05 remaining
>After trading baskets, Fullerton stole a ball that had been batted around and laid it in with 44 seconds left
>Welp pulled up for 16 foot jumper to tie the game with 27.9 left, 64-64
>Harris pulled up at the free throw line with two seconds on the shot clock and 5.9 on the game clock to put CSUF back in front, 66-64
>UCI's final attempt went off the glass

"Give Fullerton credit because they fought harder than we did. They were hungrier than we were. We did have a lead. We did control the game and were unable to finish it. We were careless and gave the ball away for transition baskets for one on none."

NOTES
>The Anteaters snapped a seven-game winning streak, which had been the 12th longest in the nation heading in to the game
>Once again, UCI played good perimeter defense, holding CSF to just 2-14 from three-point range
