
'Eaters Travel to Spokane for MPSF Indoor Championships

IRVINE, Calif. -Β The UC Irvine women's indoor track & field team heads to Spokane, Washington, this weekend for the MPSF Indoor Championships, Feb. 18-19. The meet will be held at The Podium, which opened in December 2021. Action will get underway with the first event of the pentathlon (60H) Friday at 11 a.m., while Saturday kicks off with the women's 60m hurdles at 10 a.m. The Anteaters have 22 athletes entered in 16 events.
STORYLINES
β’ UCI will be competing at a significantlyΒ lower altitude this week after traveling to Albuquerque (5,312') for its first three meets.
β’ So far this year, 10 'Eaters have combined to establish 15 individual top-10 marks in program history.
β’ Aryel Coats, Zani Meaders, Amari Fraser and Alexis Alexander also cracked the all-time top-10 in the 4x400 (7th).
β’ The MPSF Championships will look different this year with the departure of the Pac-12 schools.
β’ This weekend's championship meet will feature nine women's teams from the Big West and West Coast Conferences.
β’ The MPSF Championships had been held at the University of Washington's Dempsey Indoor for the last 18 years.
β’ In 2022, the meet moves across the state to The Podium, a brand new facility in Spokane.

β’ Deandra Tyler ranks among the top-10 in indoor program history in both the weight throw and shot put.
β’ Last week, she established a personal-record 49-05 in the weight throw, which puts her at No. 7 on UCI's all-time list.
β’ Tyler also moved up to No. 4 in the shot put with an indoor lifetime-best 42-01.25.
β’ Kassidy Sani cracked the Anteaters' top-10 in the weight throw at the Don Kirby Invite (9th, 46-04.75).

β’ Cathy Salazar-Gasca owns the Anteaters' top times in the 800m and mile this season.
β’ Last week, she established an 800m personal-record 2:14.02 (altitude-adjusted) to rank third in program history.
β’ In the first meet of the year, Salazar-Gasca clocked in at 5:09.12 (5:02.39aa) in the mile, putting her at No. 5 all-time.
β’ Hannah Chau improved her No. 9 mark in school history by two seconds as she ran a 5:08.22aa mile on Jan. 22.
β’ Alexis Alexander ran the third-fastest 600m in school history with a time of 1:36.97 at the Don Kirby Invite.
β’ Emma McCarthy also ranks seventh among UC Irvine's all-time leaders in the 600m (1:39.29) and 800m (2:17.23).

β’ In the sprints, Aryel Coats owns the seventh-fastest 60m (7.79aa) and 200m (25.25aa) times in indoor school history.
β’ Reyna Johnson moved up to No. 6 on UCI's all-time charts in the 60H with a season-best 8.71 last weekend.
β’ Zani Meaders had a sixth-place finish in the 400m (57.72) at the season-opening Dr. MLK Jr. Invite on Jan. 22.
β’ Meaders established a 400m school-record 54.81 at the 2020 MPSF Championships.
