Nathan Irwin Leads Anteaters At John A. Burns Intercollegiate

LIHUE, Kaua'i -- Nathan Irwin leads UC Irvine after the first day of the 45th John A. Burns Intercollegiate.

Irwin matched his season-low, shooting a 69 on the Ocean Course at Hokuala and is tied for 12th place. He carded seven birdies with four coming in the final five holes. Irwin was tied for second in Par 5 scoring (-4).

Sophomore Kolbe Irei, who is coming off the individual title at the Orange County Collegiate Classic, shot an even par 72 on the first round and is tied for 37th place.

Sophomore Darien Zhao is tied for 44th with a score of 73, matching Irei with three birdies over the first 18 holes.

Sophomore Henry Fitzhugh is tied for 72nd position with a total of 75 Thursday, while redshirt freshman Johnny Bai is tied for 91st place at 78.

The Anteaters are tied for eighth with a first-round score of 289. UCI was second among tournament teams on Par 3 holes, shooting one over.

27th-ranked Arizona leads by six shots, topping the field with 13-under par 275.

The second round will begin tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. (HT)/10:30 a.m. (PT).
