IRVINE, Calif. -- DJ Davis had 28 points to lead UCI to an 87-83 overtime exhibition win over Alaska Anchorage at the Bren Events Center Thursday evening.Â
Guard Dawson Baker would hit a layup with 11 seconds remaining to send it into overtime and Davis would go 8-8 from the line in the extra frame as UCI would out-score UAA 18-14 for the victory.Â
Davis went 12-12 from the line overall and 6-9 shooting from the floor for a team-best 28 points. The junior hit four three-pointers and had five rebounds in the win.Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>UCI shot 50.8 from the floor (30-59), going 7-21 from three-point distance.
>UCI crashed the glass, out-rounding the Seawolves, 49-29
>Center Bent Leuchten was 6-9 from the floor for 14 points and had a team-high 10 rebounds and two blocks
>Forward Devin Tillis added 11 points on 4-8 shooting with two three's
>Justin Hohn added eight points and four assists
>For Alaska Anchorage, Da'Zhon Wyche had a game-high 32 points with six three-pointers Â

"They didn't make it easy for us and I give them credit. We knew they were a good team and a good program. I respect the fact that we were able to come back and win the game. We needed to make some key plays and we got those key plays to pull away from them."
FIRST HALF
>After the Seawolves knocked down a three-pointer to start the scoring, Devin Tillis had UCI's first basket at 17:42 followed by a DJ Davis three-pointer at 15:48, 5-3
>Davis (14:57) drained a long jumper from the right corner, 7-3
>A Justin Hohn three and a JC Butler jumper extended the lead to 16-9 at 12:24
>Akiva McBirney-Griffin scored down low at 12:00 then Andre Henry knocked down a free throw and had a driving layup to give UCI a 21-13 advantage at 9:50
>UCI got jumpers by Hayden Welling (6:35) and Dawson Baker (5:50), 27-16
>Alaska Anchorage would score six unanswered to pull within 27-22 at 3:08
>A pair of free throws by Chazz Hutchinson would stop the Anteaters scoring drought at 1:47, 29-22
>Alaska Anchorage would hit a three from the corner with eight seconds left on the clock to end the scoring, 29-25Â
SECOND HALF
>Davis kicked off the second half with a three-pointer up top at 19:30
>Alaska Anchorage scored the next time down the court before Tillis pulled up for three at 18:52, 35-27
>The Seawolves would get as close as five before Hohn (13:48) wove his way down the paint and scored then the next time down the court Butler (13:30) drove in for a layup to extend UCI's lead to 46-37
>Alaska Anchorage would score the next five to edge closer 46-42 forcing a UCI timeout at 12:33
>Out of the timeout, Ofure Ujadughele dished to Bent Leuchten under the basket who had a soft two handed drop-in at 12:22, 48-42
>The Seawolves would go on a 8-2 run to tie the score at 50-50 (10:56)
>Leuchten would put in a layup then block a shot on the other end, 52-50
>At 8:55, Alaska Anchorage would drain a three-pointer to take their first lead of the game, 53-52
>UAA would score four in a row and lead, 62-58 (4:32) before UCI would use a layup by Leuchten (4:00) and Davis would hit two free throws (3:38) to knot the score at 62 all
>A three-pointer and a jumper by the Seawolves followed, 67-62

>Wyche Da'Zhon pulled up for a jumper at 1:05 then Keeler hit a hook shot with 50 seconds remaining, 69-67
>Tillis had a defensive rebound on the other end of the court and once Hohn crossed center court UCI called time out with 14.5 to play
>Out of the huddle, Baker drove down the lane for a layup with 11 seconds to go to tie the game at 69-69
>A Seawolf three-point attempt was pulled down by Tillis who heaved a last second shot that was short sending the game into overtimeÂ
OVERTIME
>Tillis hit a three-pointer to start the scoring in the extra period, 72-69
>Following two Alaska Anchorage free throws, Leuchten would lose his defender and lay it in at 3:40, 74-71
>Tillis would pull-up from 15 to extend the lead to 76-71 with 2:08 to go
>The Seawolves turnover led to two free throws by Davis who made both at 1:50, 78-71
>Davis would step to the line but a bench technical would give Alaska Anchorage two free throws before Davis resumed and knock down two more at the line, 80-73 (1:01)Â Â
>A quick jumpshot by the Seawolves (55) was followed by Davis being fouled and stepping to the line again for two free throws with 52 ticks left, 82-75
>A Seawolves bucket was again followed by two more Davis free throws, 84-77
> Da'Zhon kept the Seawolves alive with a three-pointer with 30 seconds to go, 84-80
>Baker was fouled and made the first of two (85-80) then Leuchten had a layup with seven seconds to go, 87-80
>Wyche would end the scoring with another three-pointer with four seconds left, 87-83 Â
