Â
6th -Â UC Irvine won a share of its
6th Big West regular-season title in 2021, 2nd now under head coach
Yossi Raz
9th -Â UCI's non-conference strength of schedule was the
9th-toughest nationally including four teams with national votes
1st -Â Cody Aung scored his
1st career win in his
1st career match with 8 saves, one off
Luke Pruter's 9 in his 1st career start
#1 - Coach Raz's 2019 recruiting class was ranked #1 in the nation with six on the 2021 roster and two now playing pro
2 -Â UCI had its second
2-goal game Saturday as
Robert Mejia joined
Agaton Pourshahidi's brace vs. Cal State Fullerton
4 -Â 4 different 'Eaters have scored winners -
Ashish Chattha,
Agaton Pourshahidi,
Francesco Montanile, and
Robert Mejia
· The Anteaters began the week at home with a win vs. CSUB. The Runners took a lead on a seventh minute penalty. The 'Eaters fought back with a
Jake Means goal in the 19th minute and the comeback complete in the 51st minute as
Robert Mejia's header led to
Francesco Montanile with a header in and the 2-1 victory
· Saturday followed with another 2-1 win as UCI scored their first win on the road at CSUN and first win when leading at the half.
Robert Mejia scored on a rebound in the 15th minute and a steal and score in the 29th minute for a 2-0 lead. The Matadors would score in the 34th minute, and a UCI PK was saved in the second half, but the Anteater defense held on to win a second match in the week
·Â
Robert Mejia's brace is the second of his collegiate career and the team's second this year joining Pourshahidi vs. CSF. He knocked in his first game-winner as an Anteater and added an assist Wednesday for a five-point week
·Â
Francesco Montanile contributed on both goals Wednesday scoring his second career game-winner and assisting on the first goal tying for second in points on UCI
·Â
Cody Aung made his collegiate debut Saturday earning the win making eight saves.
Luke Pruter won vs. CSUB without a save; he made nine in his first career start
· The Big West is in its final week with one match remaining for everyone besides UCI and UCSB who make-up their postponed match from October 15. UCI sits at 12 points battling with Sac State, CSF, and UC Davis for three spots. UCI will secure a berth with any point this week, and still has a chance to win The Big West with wins in both matches vs. UCSB and UCSD earning enough points and tiebreakers for the top spot. UCI can even earn a berth with two losses if results fall in their favor.
· The Anteaters and Gauchos will finally play after lightning prevented the matchup on October 15. Since then, the Anteaters have won twice to jump right into the middle of the standings while UCSB won vs. UC Davis but drew with one-win Cal Poly while giving up its first conference goal. Two-time First Team Big West Finn Ballard McBride is back with 11 goals this year helped by five Salvador Aguilar goals and Lucas Gonzalez's five assists on a team that averaging nearly two goals a match
· UCI Saturday at UCSD could mean a lot for UCI from winning the Big West to just making the tournament field. UCSD is still ineligible for postseason due to reclassifying. The Tritons have traded wins and losses in Big West play in addition to a draw with Cal much like UCI. UCSD has 18 goals with 10 from Nick Cirrito, Andrew Valverde, and Max Carvalho while allowing 17 with Dominic Peters' 59 saves
