IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's cross country team will send 10 student-athletes to the John Elders Titan Invite at Cal State Fullerton on Friday, Oct. 21. The women's 5K race is slated for a 5 p.m. start.
QUICK HITS
• The Anteaters have broken two school records through three meets.
• Anna Vogtmann ran a 6K program-best 19:54.7 at the Bronco Invitational.
• Vogtmann shattered the 14-year old standard of 20:12.5 that was established by Laura Olvera (2008).

LAST TIME OUT
Sophomore Anna Vogtmann broke a 14-year old school record to lead UC Irvine to a sixth-place finish last Saturday at the Bronco Invitational. Vogtmann, who ran a 30-second PR, became the first Anteater with a sub 20-minute 6K race, covering the course at Baylands Regional Park in 19:54.7. She finished fifth overall. Fifth-year senior Hannah Chau added a top-15 showing, placing 11th in a season-best 20:17.2. She was .3 seconds off her lifetime best that ranks third in program history. Graduate student Evelin Meza also cracked UCI's all-time top-10 with a personal-best 20:56.2. Sophomores Maggie Sczupak (21:32.9) and Malia Gay (21:45.9) both registered personal records, while junior McKenna Paulson notched a season-best 21:44.5. Rounding out the 'Eater lineup were Montgomery Allison (21:46.8), Cathy Salazar-Gasca (21:49.2), Olivia Liuson (21:51.3) and Tea Akiaten (21:57.5).
RECORD BREAKERS
Sophomores Anna Vogtmann and Sameen Andar have both established school records this season. Last Saturday, Vogtmann shattered the 6K program record with a time of 19:54.7 to surpass the previous best of 20:12.5, which was set by four-time All-Big West performer Laura Olvera in 2008. Andar, meanwhile, broke the 4K school record at the Anteater Opener (Sept. 1), as her 44-second PR of 14:10.4 narrowly beat teammate Hannah Chau's mark of 14:11.0 from the 2021 season. Andar is also fourth in program history in the 6K (20:26.5). In addition, Olivia Liuson (14:41.3) and Maggie Sczupak (14:42.5) are eighth and ninth all-time at UCI in the 4K, and Evelin Meza ranks 10th in the 6K.
TITAN INVITE REWIND
UC Irvine claimed the team title at the 2021 Titan Invite. The Anteaters, who had four individuals place among the top-10, took first with 22 points. They held a comfortable 29-point margin on runner-up and host Cal State Fullerton. Evelin Meza led the way, completing the 5K course in 17:58.1. She was third overall in a field of 113 athletes.
CHAMPIONSHIP GOALS
UC Irvine is coming off its best Big West and NCAA Regional finish since 2008. Last year, the Anteaters cracked the top-four at the conference meet and were just outside the West Region's top-15 as they came in five points behind UCLA to place 16th. With the core group of scorers back for another season together, the 'Eaters are primed to take the next step with their sights set on a Big West title and a top-10 regional finish.
