SANTA CLARA, Calif. --- UC Irvine's road weekend to start dual match play ended with a 4-1 loss at Santa Clara Sunday afternoon.

The Anteaters (0-2, 0-1) grabbed the lead first with the doubles point. Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and Jenna Schlatter played for the point at No. 2 doubles after UCI won No. 1 and Santa Clara won No. 3. The duo outlasted Giulia Hayer and Katherine Petty in a tiebreak for a 7-6 (7-5) set win and point for the 1-0 lead.

Santa Clara (1-1) quickly erased their deficit with straight set wins at Nos. 4, 5, and 6 to lead 3-1. Courts 1, 2, and 3 all went to a third set with Gonzalez-Rico and Jessica Tsukiji coming back after losing their first sets. The Broncos closed out the win at No. 2 singles.

Alyssia Fossorier - "Following Davis, our team really banded together. We came in with strong energy and I'm proud of how each of our teams fought during doubles. Althought singles did not go our way, I enjoy competing alongside my teammates. I'm sure we will take what we learned from these matches to be even stronger for the upcoming season. Zot Zot Zot!"

Jessica Tsukiji - "It was super exciting to get the doubles point today! Our energy and intensity really carried us through those matches.
