EL SEGUNDO, Calif. --- Anteater basketball alum Will Davis II is back in the G-League joining the Los Angeles Lakers' affiliate, South Bay Lakers, Sunday afternoon.
South Bay Lakers acquire Will Davis II
Davis II was part of the program from 2011-15 finishing his collegiate career leading the Anteaters to its first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament as the Big West's Defensive Player of the Year and the Big West Tournament MVP as the 'Eaters would win its first.
Since graduating, Davis II has bounced around among pro teams for the last seven seasons. He began his pro career in Greece for one season playing 28 games with Kolossos Rodou. He returned to the states after being drafted by the Sacramento Kings' affiliate, Reno Bighorns, in the NBA Developmental League draft playing two seasons with them; two of his most successful pro campaigns playing 74 games averaging over nine points and 4.3 rebounds. He was then traded to the Windy City Bulls of the Chicago Bulls organization before being picked up the the Washington Wizards' affiliate, Capital City Go-Go in the expanision draft who immediately loaned him overseas.
That 2018 season saw Davis' whirlwind grow playing briefly with Larnaca in Cyprus and then to Al Wasl Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. He was traded again, still in 2018, to the Brooklyn Nets' affiliate, Long Island Nets, playing a handful of games as the Nets finished as runners-up in the G-League Finals.
The last couple years, Davis II returned to the international scene playing with Steaua Bucaresti in Romania and most recenlty Argentina's Regatas Corrientes before the Lakers claimed him off waivers.
The 29-year-old has 98 games of G-League experience as he joins his fifth club. The beginning to the G League season has been moved and adjusted multiple times, and is now scheduled to start on January 5, 2022.
Will Davis II Added to November 2021 USA Men's World Cup Qualifying Roster
The 6-8 power forward is also back with the U.S. National Team as he did earlier in 2021 with the AmeriCup Qualifying Team. Team USA is qualifying for the FIBA World Cup in 2023 and two games in already splitting in November. Davis II joined them for the first round of games in late November playing 12 minutes in the win over Cuba with 4 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. The U.S. is back on the court in late February to take on Puerto Rico and Mexico on the 24th and 27th.
