IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine men's basketball has unveiled its schedule for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
The Anteaters currently have a 10-game non-conference slate highlighted by four teams that advanced to the postseason last year including elite eight team, USC. The 'Eaters are also set to play a 20-game Big West ledger. Fans will get the chance to catch the Anteaters at the Bren this season 14 times including five non-conference opponents making the trip to Irvine.
UCI begins the season with a home exhibition game against Cal State Dominguez Hill Friday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.
The official start of the 2021-22 campaign will begin in Las Cruces, New Mexico with a game against New Mexico State on Tuesday, Nov. 9. The Aggies went 12-8 last season and made an appearance in the WAC Tournament finals before falling to Champion Grand Canyon.
UCI's home opener is slated for Saturday, Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. against Boise State. The Broncos finished the 2020-21 season with a 19-9 overall record and made their 16
th postseason tournament appearance after advancing to the NIT quarterfinals. UCI and BSU last met in Idaho in 2019 as the Anteaters won the game, 69-60.
The Anteaters will return home to host a game on Nov. 16 followed by Pepperdine on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. The 'Eaters and Waves will meet for the third-consecutive season. Pepperdine played in the CBI postseason tournament last year, finishing with a 15-12 overall record.
UCI will head north for two non-conference matchups against Santa Clara (Nov. 27) and Fresno State (Dec. 11).
For the second-straight year, UCI will travel to Los Angeles to play Pac-12 opponent USC at the Galen Center. The game is slated for Wednesday, Dec. 15. Last season, the Trojans advanced to the Elite Eight at the 2021 NCAA Tournament, finishing with a 25-8 overall record.
The road does not get any easier, as the Anteaters will play a neutral site game against Duquesne in Akron, Ohio on Dec. 19 followed by an away contest at Buffalo on Dec. 21. The Bulls made an appearance in the NIT last season, finishing with a 16-9 overall record.
The Anteaters will open the Big West season at home for their first two games, hosting CSUN (Dec. 30) and UC Santa Barbara (Jan. 1). The 'Eaters and Gauchos are primed for a rematch of the 2021 Big West championship game.
UCI's Homecoming game is slated for Saturday, Feb. 12 as the Anteaters will host UC Davis at the Bren for a 6 p.m. tip.
The Big West Tournament will be held at the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nevada, March 9-12.
