Hrlec, Galza Join Men’s Water Polo Staff

IRVINE, Calf. – UC Irvine men's water polo filled out its coaching staff with the additions of assistant coaches Bojan Hrlec and Randy Galza for the upcoming 2021 season.

Entering his 17th season, head coach Marc Hunt announced the additions of Hrlec and Galza as assistant coaches joining volunteer assistant Greg Haynes and director of operations Bruce Reynolds.

Hrlec, a UCI alum, played two seasons with the men's water polo team in 2012 and 2013. He graduated from UCI in 2014 with a degree in business administration. 

Hrlec was named an All-American in 2012 and led the Anteaters in scoring during that season. He was a Dean's List honoree and named on the MPSF All-Academic Team.

Since graduation, Hrlec has been involved in coaching several local water polo clubs and high school teams in Southern California including Cathedral Catholic high school, Del Mar water polo club, La Jolla United water polo club and Patriot water polo club.

Hrlec also has worked as an operations assistant for Luis Vuitton North America and as an associate at Colliers International.

"Bojan brings a very technical, yet fundamental approach to his coaching. His attention to detail, intertwined with his outwardly positive approach is an excellent fit for our student-athletes. As a UCI water polo alum, Bojan will augment our team culture and tradition immediately. Bojan is tireless in his execution and I expect him to have a strong impact with our program," said Hunt.

Galza joins the Anteaters from Saddleback College where he was an assistant coach for the men's and women's water polo teams. He was also an associate faculty for the Kinesiology and athletics department. 

He has coached at several water polo clubs and high schools throughout Southern California, most recently at SOCAL water polo club. Galza has also worked as a substitute teacher. He graduated from UC Riverside in 2004. 

"Randy is the first step toward building an innovative approach to goalie training. As a dedicated goalie coach, Randy brings an expertise that adds a greater substantive value to our goalie preparation. Randy is constantly upbeat. His infectious intensity, precise preparation and innovative training techniques are of great value to our student-athletes," said Hunt.

UCI is set to begin it 2021 season Saturday, Sept. 4 with games against Chapman (10 a.m.) and Redlands (3:30 p.m.) at Anteater Aquatics Complex.
