The UC Irvine men's track & field team had three podium finishes on the final day of the Big West Championships Saturday at Anteater Stadium.

The 'Eaters closed out the conference meet in sixth place with 66 points.

"It was exciting to see the collective group really get out there, compete and see what they're made of," said head coach Jeff Perkins. "We have a lot of guys who are inspired, motivated and prepared to get after it. Jack Pickard was inspiring in the javelin on day one and it just kind of kept going from there. Kyle Tsu was amazing in the shot put and guys like Malcolm Overbaugh really stepped up."

In the 4x400 relay, Malcolm Overbaugh, Miles Duncan, Josh Farmer and Eric Parker combined for a season-best 3:12.73 to claim runner-up honors.

Overbaugh had an impressive day as he also accounted for 11 individual points. The Irvine, Calif., native took third in the 200m (21.66), making a late push to edge Cal Poly's Tyler Esteves by one-hundredth of a second. Overbaugh picked up five more points with a fourth-place showing in the 400m where he established a personal-record 48.48.

In his first Big West Championship meet, freshman Jarel Sayles placed third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.47 seconds.

Miles Duncan notched a lifetime-best 1:52.48 in the 800m (6th), while Parker added a sixth-place finish in the 400m (50.27).

Parker, Overbaugh, Sayles, and Seth Enochs came in sixth in the 4x100 at 42.09 seconds.

The discus throwers were UC Irvine's only field athletes in action on Saturday, and they contributed five points to the team score. Noah Holm led the way in fourth with a PR 176-09, which moved him up to No. 8 in school history. Kyle Tsu, who claimed the shot put title on Friday, was also eighth overall (173-11).

Up next is the NCAA West Preliminary Round where the region's top-48 declared student-athletes in each individual event and the top-24 declared relay teams will be accepted into the meet at Texas A&M, May 26-29. The selections will be announced May 20 on NCAA.com.
