NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's track & field team racked up eight individual victories at the Red & Black Invitational Friday at the Matador Track Complex.
Senior
Brianna Villanueva led the way as a double champion with season bests in both events. She won the hammer with a toss of 179-02, while headlining a 1-2-3 finish for the Anteaters in the discus at 160-09.
Junior
Tayla Crenshaw was the runner-up in the discus with a personal-record 148-10, which puts her at No. 9 in school history. She added a third-place showing in the hammer (158-07). Freshman
Kassidy Sani also took third in the discus in her collegiate debut (137-02).
In the shot put, Crenshaw came in second (42-01.5), while freshman
Deandra Tyler was third (41-10.5).
Freshman
Aryel Coats recorded a season-best 18-04.5 in the long jump to claim runner-up honors. Senior
Natalie Koppel tacked on a third-place finish (17-09.5). In her season debut, junior
Citlali Pichardo was fifth in the triple jump (34-09).
On the track, senior
Cecily Montanez won the 400m, crossing the finish line in 57.96. She beat her personal record by over two seconds.
Coats contributed an individual victory in the 100m (12.16), and took second in the 200m with a season-best 24.78. Freshman
Mia Marquez (25.27) and junior
Jaida Robinson (25.83) also registered season bests to place third and fourth, respectively, in the 200m.
Senior
Kayla Rodriguez came in second in the 400m hurdles with a season-best 64.33, while freshman
Amari Fraser was the runner-up in the 100m hurdles (15.08).
UCI had the top-two finishers in the 800m with sophomore
Cathy Salazar-Gasca securing the victory at 2:16.67, and classmate
Elizabeth Celada Padilla coming in second with a season-best 2:18.87. Freshman
Alexis Alexander (2:21.26) and sophomore
Tess Mathes (2:22.10) added season bests to round out the top five.
Celada Padilla took top honors in the 1500m (4:48.80), and was followed by senior
Daisy Garcia (4:58.11) and sophomore
Nikki Fulcomer (4:58.32).
Sophomore
McKenna Paulson notched another individual victory for the distance crew with a first-place finish in the 3000m (10:26.74). Sophomore
Claire Livengood was second (10:27.26), while junior
Patricia Sanchez was third with a lifetime-best 10:28.22.
The 4x400 relay team of Robinson, Alexander,
Myah Hatcher and
Shaelyn Amos wrapped up the meet with a winning time of 4:10.45.
