UC Irvine Records Six Top Finishes at Red & Black Invite

The UC Irvine men's track & field team combined for six individual victories at CSUN's Red & Black Invitational Friday at the Matador Track Complex.
 
Junior Kyle Tsu was a double champion in the shot put and discus. He led a quartet of Anteaters in the shot with a season-best 57-09.75, which was a couple inches shy of his personal record that ranks third in program history. Junior Noah Holm was the runner-up at 52-07.25.
 
Tsu also headlined a 1-2-3 finish for the 'Eaters in the discus with a toss of 169-01. Holm again came in second with a season-best 163-06, while freshman Jacob Hawkins took third (158-10).
 
In the javelin, senior Jack Pickard had the top mark at 179-07, and classmate Richard Atthowe chipped in a season-best 142-09.
 
UCI had four freshmen compete in the hammer throw with three establishing season bests. Hawkins led the way with a mark of 157-11, which was good for fifth.
 
Junior Josh Farmer placed first in the high jump (6-03.25), and second in the pole vault with a collegiate personal-record 14-01.25.
 
Junior Seth Enochs (21-10.75) and sophomore Tobi Adegoke (20-10) both had top-five performances in the long jump. It was Adegoke's season debut.
 
On the track, freshman Jarel Sayles notched his first collegiate victory, finishing ahead of the pack in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.69.
 
Junior Miles Duncan took top honors in the 800m, crossing the finish line in a season-best 1:54.27. Sophomore Jason Messner also had a season-best 1:58.57 to come in third.
 
For the third meet in a row, junior Malcolm Overbaugh recorded a lifetime best in the 400m as he finished fourth in 48.86 seconds. Freshman Eric Parker also saw an improvement in his second collegiate race (48.93).
 
Freshman Cameron Smith earned runner-up honors in the 3000m (9:04.61), and was followed by classmate Henry McClish in third (9:09.97). Freshman AJ Sager also placed third in the 1500m with a season-best 4:10.38.
 
Overbaugh, Duncan, Farmer and Parker closed out the meet with a second-place showing in the 4x400 relay where they notched a season-best 3:13.06.
