Anteaters Close Out Day 1 of Beach Invitational

LONG BEACH, Calif. -
The UC Irvine men's track & field team competed in the throws and distance events at the Beach Invitational Friday at Jack Rose Track.
 
Junior Miles Duncan earned his second individual victory of the season, finishing first in the 800m with a time of 1:53.69. He was .01 seconds off his season best and .18 seconds shy of his lifetime best.
 
Freshman Lukas Amare led a trio of 'Eaters in the 1500m where he placed third overall (4:06.09). Freshman Cameron Smith also ran his first career 3000m steeplechase (9:57.44).
 
In the throws, junior Kyle Tsu took third in the shot put with a toss of 57-02.75. Tsu came in behind only USC's McKay Johnson and Matthew Katnik. Junior Noah Holm added a fourth-place finish at 52-10.75.
 
Tsu (172-07) and Holm (169-10) were also third and fourth, respectively, in the discus. Holm's mark was a season best.
 
Senior Jack Pickard claimed runner-up honors in the javelin with a toss of 182-04, while freshman Quincy Stokes was UCI's top finisher in the hammer throw at 151-02.
 
UC Irvine continues the Beach Invitational tomorrow with the jumps, sprints, hurdles and relays. The field events are slated for a 10:30 a.m. start, while action on the track gets underway at 3 p.m.
