UC Irvine Remains in 12th at Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -
The UC Irvine men's golf team remained in 12th place after the second day of the 74th Western Intercollegiate Tuesday at Pasatiempo Golf Club.
 
The Anteaters finished the afternoon with a 6-count-5 score of 376. Their 36-hole total of 747 is four strokes behind UTEP and six back of Colorado State in 10th.
 
Seventh-ranked Pepperdine leads the field heading into tomorrow's final round at 2-over 702 (354-348). BYU's Carson Lundell also took over the top spot on the individual leaderboard with a 6-under 134 (68-66).
 
Graduate student Jonathan Kang continued to lead the 'Eaters after matching his first-round score of 2-over 72. He is now tied for 25th with a 36-hole total of 144.
 
Freshman Darien Zhao and junior Nathan Irwin are also tied for 56th at 149. Zhao had three birdies during a four-hole stretch, getting to 1-under on the 10th, but struggled the rest of the way as he finished the round at 4-over. Irwin also carded a 76.
 
Junior Matt Gunson saw a two-stroke improvement in the second round as he moved up three spots into a tie for 62nd at 150 (76-74).
 
Freshmen Henry Fitzhugh (155) and Kolbe Irei (168) are also 76th and 88th, respectively.
 
UCI will wrap up play at the Western Intercollegiate tomorrow with the final round.
