LONG BEACH, Calif. – It took extra time, but UC Irvine pulled out a 71-68 win over Big West rival Long Beach State, Friday afternoon at Walter Pyramid.

UCI improves to 15-8 on the season and 9-4 in the Big West. LBSU falls to 5-10 overall and 4-7 in conference play.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> DJ Davis and Collin Welp each finished with 18 points. Davis dished out a team-best five assists and knocked down two three's. Welp was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line
> Brad Greene also finished in double-figures with 11 points. He added nine rebounds and three blocks
> JC Butler added nine points to go along with seven rebounds and an assist
> UCI shot 38.2 percent (26-68) from the floor overall while LBSU was 27-72 (.375) shooting from the field. The Beach went 6-of-25 from long range while UCI made 3-of-10 from deep
> Both teams grabbed 42 boards while UCI's bench outscored LBSU, 36-2. The 'Eaters also got 17 points off of 16 mishaps by the Beach
> LBSU was led in scoring by Isaiah Washington with 17 points

FIRST HALF
> The Beach surged to a 7-2 lead (15:29) before UCI went on a 6-0 run to go up, 8-7 (13:46)
> The Anteaters used another 6-0 run to take an 18-14 lead with 8:40 to play
> LBSU responded with a 9-0 run to take a 23-18 lead over UCI with 5:44 remaining
> Two made free throws by DJ Davis brought UCI within one, 26-25, at the break

SECOND HALF
> LBSU created a six point lead, 37-31, with 14:21 remaining before Butler scored seven points in a 10-0 run for UCI to give the visitors a 41-37 lead (10:28)
> LBSU would tie things up, 50-50, with 6:12 to play before Greene scored six-straight points to make it 56-50 (3:59)
> Welp hit a jumper with 22 seconds remaining to put UCI up by three, 60-57. A Jeron Artest missed free throw with :09 left gave the Beach the ball back as Chance Hunter hit a three-pointer from the corner at seven seconds to send the game to overtime

OVERTIME
> Davis scored six points on a jumper, layup and two made free throws to give UCI a 68-64 edge with 2:07 remaining
> An LBSU jumper at :28 brought the home team within one, 69-68
> Welp made a pair of free throws with one second left on the clock to seal the 71-68 victory for UCI
