MEXICO CITY, Mexico --- On Wednesday, the storied Mexican club, Club América, announced the signing of Anteater star
Scarlett Camberos to a pro deal.
"I'm super excited to start this new journey as a professional soccer player!" Camberos exclaimed about her newest venture. "I couldn't have asked for a better opportunity than starting my professional career off at Club América, oen of the biggest teams on the continent."
Camberos joins fellow Anteater alums Janelly Farías and Kiana Palacios who are members of the club. She begins training with the club Thursday down in Mexico City. Farías has been with Liga MX since 2019 and joined up with América in 2021. Palacios joined Farías and América shortly after in 2021 as well.
Las Aguilas or Las Azul-cremas have been around since 1916, and formed a women's club in 2016 playing all their matches in the storied Estadio Azteca. The club were champions in 2018 in Toreno Apertura of Liga MX Femenil and currently stand fifth in 2021 with nine wins and 31 points over 17 matches.
Camberos is coming off one of the best offensive seasons in program history with 13 goals, seven assists, three game-winners, and 33 points which included a pair of hat tricks. She was honored numerous times from First Team All-West Region, First Team All-Big West, three Big West Player of the Week accolades, and culminating in Big West Offensive Player of the Year notoriety.
